2009 Press Release: City's Senior Staff Voluntarily Forego Pay
Increase
For immediate release
June 20, 2009
In a recent letter to Des Plaines City Manager Jason Bajor, the
City’s Department Heads/Senior Staff voluntarily agreed to forego a
pay increase in 2009, based on the "downturn of the national and
local economy" and its impact on the local financial situation.
The twelve Senior Staff members met independently to discuss the
issue, following the public announcement by City Manager Jason Bajor
that he would not be accepting a pay increase this year. The
decision was unanimous amongst the group.
The signed letter, supporting the efforts of the City Manager
Jason Bajor, states, "We appreciate the leadership you [Jason Bajor]
displayed in being one of the first municipal leaders in the area to
publicly state that you would not be accepting a pay increase this
year. You were clear in not compelling your Department Head/Senior
Staff group to do the same. On the contrary, you suggested it would
be best for the Department Heads to meet as a group and decide for
themselves how best to proceed…. We are pleased to join you in
providing a leadership response to the City’s financial challenges
by foregoing a pay increase due in 2009."
